Decisions at the Statutory Meeting of the Point Fortin Borough Council held on 22/11/12

  1. Removal of Gas Station at Frisco:
The Council decided that it was time for NP to remove the Gas Station at Frisco Roundabout to make way for the Borough’s “organization of space” planning agenda. While NP is planning to upgrade the gas station its presence there is causing intolerable traffic jam and one of its pumps is too close to the road. The Council felt that in a town as Point Fortin, which is in expansion mode the gas station must go to make way for an organized, properly managed taxi stand with opportunities for vending and decent washroom facilities. The Council also indicated that it had approached NP to establish a Quick Shoppe in the vicinity opposite to the T+TEC offices. The council intends to intensify discussion with NP on this matter. His Worship the Mayor suggested that the Corporation write Town & country Planning Division indicating the plans for the Borough inclusive of the removal of the Gas Station from its present location. He said that in this way that agency would be aware of the Corporation’s plan when N P. approaches them. This, he said, can then help in discussions with National Petroleum.
  2. The Point Fortin Borough Council expressed disappointment with the attitude of the Housing Development Corporation since no responses have been received to their petition to the Corporation to take action and begin the process of distribution of HDC Houses in the La Fortune area. The unoccupied houses are being vandalized while there are very many people begging for housing. The Mayor felt that the Ministry of Housing was encouraging squatting.
  3. Peters and Eagle Hall road to be resurfaced. Contracts awarded by the Central Tenders Board are to be executed within the next two weeks.
  4. Guapo Beach Facility is to be open soon under a Management/Operator arrangement. The Operator is currently preparing the facility for a top class hospitality operation, swimming pool et al.
  5. Flood lighting of the Fanny Village Recreation Ground will commence by the end of November 2012 the meeting was told.
